But they have a lot to give, too. Many bassets only "come into their own" as they mature and develop the famous basset character. Older dogs are quiet, companionable, and housetrained. They are less likely to develop behavioral problems. And most important, they are the dogs most in need of a home! Older dogs are not "dying dogs."
