HERBERT (1446)

Herbert would love nothing more than to have a safe forever home, people to give his heart to and call his own. If you love to receive affection as much as giving, Herbert is your hound! He loves his belly rubs and will smother you with big Basset kisses. He is a very sweet hound who likes people, other dogs, and loves to be loved. Herbert needs to be reassured during storms; he’s scared of the big thunder-boomers, most likely from being out lost and alone during storms in his past. Herbert first came to BROOD as a thin, starved dog, with a sad tattered ear and a severe ear infection. His ear infection has been treated, but scar tissue remains from previous infections, and should be monitored regularly. He has been gaining weight steadily and now looks forward to mealtime. Herbert is making great strides on his house training manners; he now rarely has accidents and with reinforcement and a permanent home he will continue to improve.

At seven years old he is the perfect age, well past the juvenile rebellious stage, yet lively enough to fit your active lifestyle. Whether a single person who needs a best friend waiting by the door for them when they come home, or a family looking for a dog to sleep beside their child’s bed, Herbert is a true companion. Best of all, as a sign of appreciation and affection, Herbert will graciously sing when you walk through the door . Although he rarely barks, when he’s happy he sings – he puts his little lips together and throws his head back and sings the grandest Basset notes you’ve ever heard!

Herbert needs a forever home, someone to love him, make sure he never has to go hungry or risk starvation again and a home with a warm bed instead of a cold street. If you can take some time to help this sweet hound feel safe, he’ll repay you with all his heart! His good nature will make him an excellent pet, friend, and addition to any home!
