it's
a tough life
There I was, minding my own business in a foster home in Chesapeake,
Virginia with another Basset who had JUST moved in when suddenly a SUV
from Maryland pulls up and out springs a human that was so happy to see
me that she just scooped me up and hugged me and hasn't stopped yet. We
went for a very long ride that day and arrived in the mountains of
western Maryland where I find myself living today.
Life is rough here. They actually make me walk out to the kitchen to
get my food from my bowl! I'm only fed canned food in the morning and
forced dry in the evening! My new sister and I only get cookies 3 or 4
times a day and there is still some floor space between our toys. Agony!
Only two acres of land to run on with bunnies, groundhogs, deer, mice,
chipmunks, foxes, .... to track. I'm only allowed to sleep 15 hours a
day and forced to take walks with this mad woman who calls herself my
new mommy! Not to worry though, I'm still the watch dog barking at my
new dad all the time. Just so he remembers that I'm there, I follow him
around the house barking. He seems to like it, his face turns really red
and sometimes he likes to bark at me in human language!
THINGS I'VE LEARNED: I've learned that not all kitties taste the
same. And apparently I don't taste good to them either. Some are
actually bigger than me and some can run really fast. None like to share
their food. I also learned that if I run off without mom or dad that
both get really upset that I've been missing and that dad doesn't like
to go out looking for me in rainstorms. I found out that getting "snacks" from the trash can really upsets my new
humans. When mom comes home at night from work, cuddling on the couch
with her while she watches TV seems to make us both feel happy and safe.
There is some confusion lately as I don't think my new mommy realizes
that my name is Beavis. She seems to call me all kinds of different
names, but it's okay, I will answer her anyway, she's the one who gives
me food! All in all I really like my new home. I have a fun new sister
and the 2 kitties that I get to terrorize and there are all these small
feathery things in a cage that make lots of funny tweet noises at me.
The kisses and hugs are endless here and it's not just mommy and daddy,
lots of other humans come over and give kisses, hugs and scratchies and
call themselves aunts and uncles. I don't know what that means, but as
long as they keep up the scratchies and kisses, they can be what ever
they want!
I guess I'll stay here for a while. These poor people seem to need
Basset love and I can probably put myself out enough to supply it to
them. They need some training, but I'll have them bringing me my food
and waiting on me hand in paw in no time.
