a
fairy
tale come true!
My
husband and I lost our female golden retriever to cancer a couple of
years ago. She was definitely Daddy's little girl and he missed her a
lot. We both do volunteer work for local shelters and Rainbow Animal
Rescue and were considering the idea of adopting another female dog but
had not found the "right" one.
Since we camp a lot we wanted to try and find a
smaller dog this time but one that our other "kids" got along
with. We have two other dogs, Rayven a chow/lab mix and Buster Brown a
Chocolate lab. Both have lots of energy, love to play and are very
affectionate.
We arrived at the Greenbrier PetsMart adoption
in Oct of 2006 to work with Rainbow, and my husband saw this pretty
little girl with her "fairy" costume on. Her name was Pearl
and she was a Basset mix. At first I was very hesitant, a basset? I've
always had big dogs that loved to run and play. I always thought bassets
were lazy loveable dogs, but would she really fit in to our pack?
We
talked it over and decided to fill out the application. She was the girl
my husband had been searching for! The day the foster brought her over
you would have thought Pearl had lived there all along. All three dogs
immediately started playing and loving each other.
Now Pearl (renamed Bristol) is the princess of
the house. Rayven (at left) is her protector and Buster (the lab) loves
to wrestle with her. We have to be careful of course because she is
fragile and Buster is a big boy but he listens well and knows when to
stop. She even has her own life jacket to wear while she watches her
brothers swim in the lake.
Bristol has her own "stoop" if you
will. She has taken over the chair ottoman and will sit there and
"talk" to you. If you don't talk back, she talks more. I hate
to say it, but I think she has become Mommy's little girl. Yeah she
loves her Dad, but she follows Mom everywhere!
