my name is bubbles!

This is me, Bubbles!I have lived with my current human slaves for about 18 months. I was with my original human slaves for about three years but was given up at Christmas because one of the kids was allergic to me. I was rescued by one of BROOD’s volunteers from the Harford County Shelter– she still calls me her Christmas present.

I was initially adopted by a wonderful couple who treated me like their own child. They loved me so much.  They took a lot of pictures of me, several of which ended up in the 2001 BROOD calendar. One day, though, they took me to a nice restaurant in Tysons Corner. To my surprise, they left me with a woman who said, “don’t worry, I know how to treat her and my dogs do too.”

Bubbles' WorldThe woman took me to a totally dysfunctional home with a huge dog and two very weird Basset Hounds. Luckily, I had heard her say that this would only be temporary so I wasn’t too concerned.  Being an Alpha dog,  I wanted to assert myself in the pack order as quickly as possible. I wanted to make it known that I was the Queen of the house and I would not put up with any of their nonsense even though I was only staying for a couple of days.  Unfortunately for me, they didn’t seem to appreciate my royalty. It was awful. I was put in my place by all of them.

Well, after a few days, I began wondering when I was going to leave.  Even though the Bassets were a little weird, the huge dog and the humans seemed to be relatively nice, especially the man. He said he really liked my “attitude”.   The woman said I really fit in very well in the pack.   After a week, they decided to adopt me and give one of the weird Bassets to Second Chance Rescue, a group that occasionally takes BROOD dogs with severe behavior problems.

Me on my Throne!I have since regained some of my royalty. I have my own chair (throne) and will listen to the man’s classical guitar music for hours.  I also enjoy sitting at the top of the driveway watching my kingdom.  If I have an issue with anything, I make sure that everyone is well aware of my displeasure.  Occasionally, I test the woman just to keep her on her toes.

I have also learned to be a little more tolerant of the other dogs. I don’t try to steal the huge dog’s food. I stay away from the weird Basset Hound when he gets in one of his moods but I have no problem telling him off either, much to the woman’s pleasure.  The current foster dog has taught me to loosen up a little and play.

Yes, I think I have found my forever home, dysfunctional as it may be.  The bottom line is that my human slaves love me and I love them. It’s all that matters, isn’t it?
