sadie's pal, chase

This is SadieIt’s all my fault.  I fell in love with Sadie when she moved into the house with her Mom.  How could I not with those Vanessa Williams eyes and that Queen Victoria air about her?

As one in love is apt to do, I found out as much as I could about the Basset Hound breed.  One characteristic that stuck with me is that they are pack dogs and enjoy the companionship of other dogs, especially other hounds.  Sadie was raised with (or is the “by”) cats and loves their company, but I could tell she longed for one of her own kind to spend her days with.

And this is ChaseA search on the Internet led me to BROOD where I spend several visits whimpering over all the babies in need of good homes.  It didn’t take much to convince Sadie’s Mom that we should submit our application for adoption.

We passed the home visit test (although I did got the “fat dog” lecture after which Sadie promptly went on a diet), so our next step was to meet potential candidates.

We were pretty sure going into this that we wanted another female, so when we got the word to meet both a female and a male dog, we thought our choice would be simple.

Upon our arrival at the meeting home, we were first introduced to Chase. Chase upside down

He was a long, skinny, big-headed boy who gave us each a hug and sat himself down on our feet as he leaned up against us.  I should have known then my heart was hooked, but we continued the visit with the female dog anyway.  We spent most of the visit with the female dog, but I kept thinking about that sweet, big-headed boy waiting alone outside.  He gave us each another hug as we left.  We told Helen (of BROOD) that we would decide that evening.

It didn’t take long for us to decide that Chase was the boy for us.  His sweetness won us over almost immediately.

Chase and Sadie - best palsOn March 1st of 2002 he joined our family.  We were a little nervous not knowing how he would be with the cats or even with Sadie, but even the first night with us he made himself at home on the couch, flipping upside-down and sleeping that way.  He did display some possessiveness around his food, but he has calmed down over this past year.

Chase has earned himself many nick-names, (Big-Head Boy, Boo-Boo (for the scar on the top of that great big head of his), The Incredible Flipping Dog, Chase-a-licious, and Wiggleworm to name a few), the trust and therefore the indifference of the cats, and a very happy place in our home.  And Sadie has herself a sweet, silly companion who can’t stand to be apart from her.

Thank you BROOD for taking in babies like Chase, restoring their health, and giving them a chance to find a safe, secure, and happy home.  Chase has been a sweet and delightful addition to our family, thanks to all the people who made his rescue and adoption possible.
