I adopted Droopy after I lost my first basset hound, Orrville. I
remember my mom asking me if I was sure I wanted another basset hound
after Orrville passed away. I responded "Of course I do. They are
the perfect pet. They are like having portable furniture that loves you
unconditionally."
Then BROOD directed me to a couple that had to give up their basset
hound because the husband was being transferred to Kosovo. I quickly
said yes and have never regretted adopting Droopy Drawers. He was not
quite portable furniture. He came from a military family and ran almost
every day at least three miles. I quickly realized that I needed to find
a place to exercise him (because let's face it...he was in better shape
than me!)
Luckily Arlington County has several dog parks. So almost everyday we
go to the dog park. Droopy has developed a large group of friends over
the years. There is Tia the grand dam of the dog park. They have been
friends for six years now and are definitely the old timers at the park.
His other buddies are Madison, Fochen, Reilly, Aussie, Renegade, and
Bella to name a few. They all get together for play dates at the park
and at each other's houses. They go swimming together. He is also a
regular in the Mardi Gras parade each year representing the Clarendon
Dog park. In fact, he has quite the social calendar!
In addition to his park friends, he likes to sit out on the porch
every day and greet the sidewalk people. He has trained several of them
to bring him treats. His prize he helped pick out my mom's basset hound,
Belle. Droopy has such a great personality. I am so glad that I adopted
him and he adopted me.
