my three moms

My name is Ginger and I am adopted. BROOD brought my Mom and me together just a little over a year ago. My Mom still looks at the available Bassets on the website and sometimes she will tell me what a hard life some of them have had. It makes me sad, but also very thankful. My life has not been hard at all.

This is my glamour shot I have had three "Moms" in my almost four years of life. My first Mom was a very nice lady who had a little boy and must have loved me very much, because she was crying when she had to give me up. She was moving to a place that would not accept dogs.(Can you imagine that?) Anyway, she brought me to the pound and since I am very bright, I figured out what was happening. I saw this pretty lady across the room who was rescuing two Dachshunds. I thought that if she liked long dogs with short legs, she would really love me. I went over to her, wagged my tail furiously, gave her a few licks and she took me home with her. (Works every time!)

This was my second Mom, my foster mom, Kim. There were a lot of dogs at her house--I was number seven--but I became very special to her (of course) and she kept me for 10 months. She even had me "fixed" so I would be ready for adoption. Last July, Kim contacted BROOD to put me on their adoption site. About that time, a lady in Richmond, Virginia had to let her Basset, Louie, go to the Rainbow Bridge. She saw my picture and contacted BROOD about possibly adopting me. She was put in touch with Kim and they talked on the phone and the next thing I knew, I was riding to my new house. That is how I got my third Mom, my forever mom, Myrna.

"My place" on the sofa!! When I first came in the house, we went into the den and I jumped on the sofa and it has been "my place" ever since. I sleep there every night/day and sit up on the arm to look out the window. I have a nice big fenced yard with lots of trees and lots of squirrels. Boy are they fast! I take my Mom for a walk every day and we meet the neighbors and they pet me and it is so much fun. My Mom loves me very much and is so happy that we are together. (Me, too!)

We keep in touch with Kim by e-mail and she even came to visit me last fall when she was bringing another Basset to a family near here. We had a wonderful reunion and I hope she will come back again.

This is how I came to have three moms.
