this mitzi's a gainer

Hello. My name is Mitzi. I don't remember much about my past life, just that I spent a long time with one human. One day I woke up but my human didn't. I waited and waited and waited. No food or walks or anything -- maybe for days. 
Finally, some people in cars with lights and sirens came and took me and my human away. 

I was sent to a 'shelter'. Hmpf. Some shelter -- cold, dark and wet. I never knew where my first human went. I was so lonely and sad at the shelter. I got sick and had almost given up when this nice volunteer from BROOD came and got me. She took me to live with a new Human. 

There were two other Bassets there, Jamie and one who calls herself The Princess. Hmpf. Some "princess" -- she's afraid of her own shadow and she barks with a lisp. But they said that they'd been there since puppyhood and really liked it (except for the baths).

There were also some things called "cats." At first I didn't like them, but they ignored me and I CAN'T STAND BEING IGNORED. So I was nice to them and now they come with us on our walks. HA, what fools cats are!

I've been here over 2 years and, at 14 1/2, I AM the Queen Bee, Alpha Bitch (canine), Grand Dame of this house. My Human knows a lot about Bassets -- hard to pull the ears over her eyes -- she even figured out how to cut my nails and I HATE having my nails cut (grrrrrrrrr!!!!!!) . I LOVE food -- in fact I love it so much my Human always has me on a diet -- but I know where the secret stash of Milk Bones is and I'm always stealing them. And I take Princess' milk bones all the time (she's doesn't eat 'em fast enough -- too bad).

Jamie went to the Rainbow Bridge last summer but I've still got Princess as my dog slave. My Human is talking about getting another dog. Hmpf. I'll teach that dog a few things about life in the slow lane.

But you know, I'm pretty lucky. I've got a nice pillow and a sunny fenced yard and delicious food and Princess as my slave and MY cats. I'm glad I've found my forever home.
