mo lasses, director of hugs & cuddles

My new home!Hello, let me introduce myself. My name is Mo, Mo Lasses that is and I am a very special basset.  I want to relate my incredible story to you. I was a poor lost soul, very tired, hungry and thirsty when I stopped to rest on a lady's porch.  The lady came out and found me; worn out, panting and trying to lift my head with a big chain around my neck.  Reports from the neighborhood made it clear .... I had been "dumped".  My porch lady telephoned the local SPCA, who was full and asked that she call BROOD, who would surely take me.

Doing my job with a friendOf course BROOD did, they gave me shots, had me neutered and put me in a loving foster home where I was having a great time living with two four-legged creatures, Ben - a big, tall guy and Zelda, a dignified senior basset lady.   Everyone in my temporary home admired my sweet disposition and playfulness but it was clear I needed to find a permanent home soon.

Was I in luck!  About the time I was ready for adoption a nice group of people from the Caroline Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center, Inc. in Denton, Maryland began looking for a nice quiet laid back hound to become a permanent resident.  What a life I would have if I became the chosen dog! I could picture it in my mind; lazing around the center with my own private army of people to extend any amount of scratches, treats and love.  Yes, I knew that I could have them all trained within weeks of my arrival; opening doors with a bark, moving my bed to any station that I chose to sleep, visiting all the residents and having them buy only the special treats I preferred.  Why I was sure with a little work I could even have them bring me bones or squeaky toys!  Why a dog like me could easily have the run of the home instantly!  I could sleep in the Directors office or the sunny common room if I wanted to listen to sweet music while I napped. Yes, it was a basset dream.

Me and NormaBut I just wasn’t sure if they would pick me. So I crossed my paws and every night when I curled into my crate I drifted off to sleep content in the knowledge that someday I would have that life.  My very own tag - how cool is this!!!Well, guess what ?  The nice people at the Caroline Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center did pick me.

Now I am living the life I have always wanted with an added bonus. They created an entire position just for me, Director of Hugs and Cuddles.  I am in charge off the entire center, everyone is slowly being trained, and I am one very, very happy basset.  Now I go to sleep every night wishing that all the lost and abused bassets will find a home as wonderful and special as mine.

Thanks to all the wonderful people at the Caroline Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center and especially to Norma Schultz, the Administrator of the home for picking me!
