patches (me!) and my two sisters

This is ME, Patches!!!!Hi, I'm Patches.  And because of me, Mom now has three bassets.  You see, Queenie, Daisy and I were all adopted from BROOD.  Here's our story.

Our Mom had lost her boy dogs to old age over the rainbow bridge and she was lonely so she went to BROOD.  I had been given up by my first family because they had three kids and their mom got sick and I was a real handful (still am ... heh heh!).  I was then living with a nice lady named Jane where mom found me, fell in love, took me home, sent me to school, bought me lots of toys and took me places where I can play with other dogs.

I was having fun but mom likes to quilt and I would not let her do anything but play with me so she felt I needed a playmate.  She wound up with a big boy basset who would not let me near mom or play.  Since she wanted a playmate for me and not a dog who would bite me she found him another home.  She called Jane again and said "help".

This is QueenieJane was fostering another little girl who had just had 10 puppies, had heartworm and was very thin but Jane said that despite this she was sweet and gentle and another shy oddball.  We went to Jane's house and found Queenie.  Now mom did not change my name because as a quilter she works with "patches" so my name stayed.  Queenie kept her name because she is really prissy so we all call her the queen of dogs.  She is also the softest dog in the world except me so everyone wants to cuddle her.  I move too fast for that!

Queenie could not play because she was treated for heartworm and once she tried to play and we almost lost her over the bridge.  When she was finally better we found she did not know how to play so we are trying to teach her about toys and things she had never had in her hungry days at the end of a rope.  We love her even if she can be a dud sometimes.

And this is Daisy! We were so happy that mom thought that she should help Jane and her friends with other homeless bassets so she took in an old, hopeless, sick little dog who had known no home, just a cage, and known no love, just had lots of puppies.  Miss Droopy was not doing well in the nice kennel where they were trying to work with her and hoped that perhaps in a house which was quiet she might have a chance to be 'socialized' and gotten ready for adoption.  Forget it!!!  We got along so well with her and her silly ways that she is now adopted and will never leave.

Me and my sistersYep, Mom failed at fostering.  Daisy is the new name for our new friend.  She was really droopy but that was a hurtful name to pick on her looks so we changed it. Queenie sleeps with her and she plays but is still learning about toys.  Daisy is beginning to look pretty and we are helping her get over her fear of groups and her throwing up in the car from fear. She likes to walk though and she does not always hide now when people come over. She can use the dog door but is now always sure why she should. She kind of got used to doing things in her old dirty cage but she is learning about houses and clean and now even goes to bed on Mom's beg most nights. She was afraid of the couch at first but we taught her to get up. She wags her tail a lot and loves mom.

Most importantly, Mom loves us all.  And we think we're the luckiest girls in the world!
