Get Involved

Volunteers are the heart and soul of a dog rescue organization and BROOD could not save any hounds without the hard work of our volunteers. BROOD is an all-volunteer organization that provides rescue coverage in a six-state area of over 77,000 square miles. Our work is never done and we are always in need of more volunteers.

Help spread the word! You can print off our Volunteer Flyer (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader) that has information about BROOD volunteering.

It's fun and easy to get involved with BROOD. Volunteer opportunities currently exist for:

Transports

We often need to transport a hound from an animal shelter, to/from a veterinarian office or kennel, or to/from a foster home. Please consider giving a couple hours of your time to help other volunteers in these transports. BROOD reimburses for your mileage if requested or you can deduct mileage from your income taxes. Contact our Transportation Coordinator to sign up for the BROOD transport team.

Events

BROOD needs volunteers to represent us at events across the Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and DC metro area. Event opportunities include dog fairs, community day events, parades and adoption events at stores. Check-out our Events page and Calendar page for more information about upcoming events. Contact our Event Coordinator to learn more or if you want to volunteer.

House Visits

Help a basset get adopted by volunteering to do house visits for potential adopters. While house visits take only a short amount of time, they are a critical part of the adoption process. Contact our House Visits Team if you can help out with home visits.

Foster Homes

BROOD needs more foster homes so that our hounds do not spend time in boarding kennels while awaiting adoption. Fostering is a rewarding and important way to help our hounds find their forever homes. If you would like to foster a hound in need, please visit our Fostering Information page for more information and to apply.

Fundraising

Raising funds for BROOD's work is critical to our mission. You can help out by holding a fundraising project of your own (bake sale, home party, etc.), donating items for our raffles and auctions, or volunteering to work at our fundraising events. Our biggest event is the Ramble which is held in September. Contact our Fundraising Coordinator if you can help out with a fundraising activity.

Database and Administrative

It does not sound exciting, but we are always in need of people to help out with data entry, correspondence, and other administrative tasks to manage our adoption, financial and foster programs. Put your organizational skills to work for the hounds! Contact the BROOD President to volunteer.
